Fruits are the fleshy part of a tree or plant that contains seeds and can be eaten as food.

Fruits can be categorized by their physical properties into 6 different categories

Pomes

Pomes are categorized by their smooth skin, enlarged fleshy area that surrounds the core. Some common examples are apples, pears, and kiwis.

Drupes

Drupes are fruits that have one seed, stone, or pit, surrounded by a juicy flesh. Some common examples of Drupes are cherries, plums, peaches, nectarines, and apricots.

Berries

Berries have pulpy and juicy, fragile structures. Their seeds are embedded in the flesh of the fruit. Blackberries, cranberries, grapes and of course strawberries are some examples of Berries.

Melons

Melons have a hard outer surface with juicy flesh. The most common melons are cantaloupes, honeydew and watermelon.

Citrus

Citrus fruits have a firm rind and pulpy flesh. These types of fruits grow in warm regions. Some examples of citrus fruits are oranges, grapefruits, lemons, limes, and tangerines.

Tropical Fruits

Tropical fuits can have different skin composition and seed characteristics. They grow in very warm climates. Examples, of tropical fruits are bananas, pineapples, avocados, dates, figs, mangoes, pomegranates, and papayas.

Vegetables

Vegetables are the eddible part of a plant that in most cases do not produce seeds.

Vegetables can be catagorized based on their edible parts. Most vegetables can be eaten raw but are commonly cooked.

Flower Vegetables

The eddible part of these plants are the flower that are commonly used for culinary purposes. Some examples are Broccoli, cauliflower, and artichoke.

Leafy Vegetables

These vegetables have leaves as their eddible parts. Also known as salad greens, or just greens. Cabbage, lettuce, spinach, Brussel sprouts, kale, and bok choy are some examples of Leafy Vegetables.

Tuber And Root Vegetables

Vegetables that grow underground and have a round or long shape are Tuber and Root Vegetables. These are usually high in starch and some contain sugars. Common examples are potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, carrots, radishes, beets, and turnips.

Bulb Vegetables

These are plants that grow just beneath the surface and produce edible bulbs that usually have many layers. Onions, leeks, spring onions, shallots, scallions, and fennel are among the most common Bulb Vegetables.

Stem Or Stalk Vegetables

These plants grow above ground and have eddible stems or stalks. Stem Vegetables are very fiborous in nature. Some examples of Stem Vegetables are celery, asparagus, and bamboo shoots.

Legume Vegetables

Legume are vegetables that contain seeds inside a pod. The seeds for the most part, are the eddible portion of these plants. The most common Legume Vegetables are beans, lentils, peas, okra, peanuts, chickpeas, and soybeans.
